Holland falter yet again

June 21, 2008 Leave a comment

The dutch have been outdone by one of their very own. Former dutch coach Guus Hiddink is a tactical genius. How he takes limited sides to great heights is phenomenal.

Holland didn’t have a sniff for 85 minutes. RvN got a goal back but extra time totally belonged to the Russians.

3-1 to Ruh-shee-yaah

And I thought they would be shit. Hail Hiddink

Re-Rise of the Ottoman empire?

June 21, 2008 2 comments

If I had even a hundredth of the mental strength and courage of the Turkish football team, I wouldn’t still be single.

Maybe I should feel bad for Croatia but perhaps they had it coming after celebrating like they’d won it and then switching off. By the way, they’re clearly sissies for imploding mentally and screwing up(or to the side) their penalties.

Previously, Germany became one of my top 5 favourite teams in international football – after India, Holland, Spain and Italy – by beating Portugal and that arrogant ***** Ronaldo – who are an anathema to me.

Should be an interesting clash between the big match masters and the comeback kings in the semis.

On paper, looks like Germany are in the final.

Can the Ottomans topple the Reich?

Sillywood

Right, everyone knows Tashan was as pathetic a movie as it can get – one of the reasons I skipped it, of course.

So there I am, home after yet another unproductive, boring day at work where I keep evading, avoiding, eluding, and sleeping.

I switch on the TV to ENTER10 – a music channel I didn;t know existed – and start flinging the darts onto the ridiculous thermocole dartboard that we (me and my conscience – we are two different people) bought for a mind boggling Rs.150 at a fancy smuggled goods shop – screaming LOUD – bang in the middle of a posh multiplex where we are charged Rs.120 to sit on the floor and watch torturous movies …  DIGRESSION …

when the song  dil dance maare from – you guessed it – tashan comes on. Now, I’ve never watched the video before and when I turned my eyes towards the tube, my brain shook so violently in my head that I ended up throwing the dart so hard and so off-target that it made a nice hole right through the thick glass of the french window.

What is Kareena Kappor doing in such an obvious blnde wig? What is she doing in blonde at all? Whoa! Is that Saif Ali Khan looking like a stoned truck driver from New Mexico? Wait, here comes Akshay Kumar – he’s a redhead.. and red-beard. He’s Yosemite Sam with a haircut.

If someone can tell me the logic/sense behind this video and the ridiculous make-up and hair of the actors involved, I promise to email them pictures of the biggest flying cockroach on earth. THEY’RE EVIL, I TELL YOU. EVIL!!!!!

Rather, SMB.

I need a new template for my blog.

I have this inexplicable disorder where I tend to change things around every few days. ‘things’ obviously includes my blog, too.

Suggestions invited.

If you can’t, then you are – of course – free to f*** right off! 🙂

Dhoni and fearlessness

June 15, 2008 Leave a comment

The finest ODI captain of the current lot? Maybe the luckiest.

Fearless, selfless leader? I prefer reactive, selfish, vindictive fellow.

I have never been totally in support of Dhoni as captain, becuase he’s far too lucky to be called fantastic and seems to shrug off responsibility. He blamse his teammates too much and only puts in extra effort when the situation is clearluy in India’s favour. He blamed Raina for not rotating the strike enough, Yuvraj for getting out at the wrong time and his bowlers for poor bowling. In reality, his field placements were unimpressive, he failed to rotate the strike with Pathan – a loss of valuable momentum, which evetually cost us the match.

He has been way too lucky on way too many occasions and I was very irked when he refused to take any of the blame.

I am, in the end, a fickle Indian cricket fan. BUT, my opinion about Dhoni stays. As long he plays like a no.3 rather than a no.6, he’s costing the batting momentum.

Euro 2008 – Day 8

Spain 2-1 Sweden:

An injury time David Villa special gave Spain a direct route into the quarterfinals. After Fernando Torres put Spain ahead with a striker’s goal, Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled for Sweden with his 2nd goal in 2 matches after not scoring fro the national team in over 2 years.

The match looked like ending that way before a last gasp equaliser from David Villa crashed Swedish hopes and put them in a tricky situation as Russia won ater in the night.

Spain had a claer penalty for a foul on Silva by Elmander turned down before half time and were left fuming as the referee blew the whistle for halftime with Spain in an advantageous position.

Aragones may look to rest/test in the next game against the Greeks, who will be playing for pride.

Euro 2008 – Day 7 Review part 2 – Dutch Demolition

Holland 4-1 France:

I just cannot express in words how I felt watching this match. The dutch were simply out of this world. Everyone said their defence was too weak for them to survive the group of death. Hell, who needs a defence when you’ve got attackers like they do!!!!

As much as I hate his diving, I love him as a player. Arjen Robben. Simply brilliant. Unbelievable. He and his mates made Johann Cruyff and Rinus Michels proud once again. The goal he scored simply blew my mind. Then, Ruud van Nistelrroy showed some sweet skills, which he’s not really known for. Real Madrid are lucky bas****. RvN, Robben, Sneijder.

I find it impossible to write a review when I am in a trance. All I can say is – **** all you who said the dutch would go down. Truly, FLYING DUTCHMEN.

The group of death just got interesting. If the dutch field a weakened side and lose to Romania, both the world cup finalists – italy and france – will be boarding early flights home.

WOW, again.

Project Party tomorrow :)

June 13, 2008 Leave a comment

A part of the project at work has been completed and the team have decided to have a ‘paaar-tay’ tomorrow at Wonderfunkey (www.wonderfunkey.com).

I’ll be back tomorrow with the story of
1. How I made an utter fool of myself at the party, OR

2. How I managed to skip the paar-tay, which is unlikely because there are a few hot girls coming that I’d like to get to know 🙂

C ya l8r, alligator! After a while, crocodile!

Euro 2008 – Day 7 Review part 1 :)

Italy 1-1 Romania:

Friday, the 13th. Black Friday for Italy? Possibly.

In a highly entertaining match in which fortunes swung like  tarzan’s vine caught in a gale, Romania managed to hold Italy to a draw.

Both sides came out attacking from the word go and the fact that Italy were playing 4 regular fullbacks across defence was a sign of definite intent.

A Luca Toni goal was wrongly ruled out for offside, Bogdan Lobont had the game of his life, Gianluigi saved his team’s ar$e with a penalty save off Mutu – whjo had earlier given Romania the lead.

The penalty miss took a heavy toll on Adrian Mutu as he spent his remaining minutes on the pitch with his head in his hands and nearly in tears – he had to be taken off with a few minutes remaining.

Donadoni’s tactics were baffling to say the least – and this is coming from an armchair fan.

Italy can only go back to the hotel and watch the Holland-France match. They will be hoping France lose and that they can overcome Les Bleus in their final group encounter.

Either way, one of France and Italy looks to be hedaing home and will this signal the end of an era for the european powerhouses’ football?

Euro 2008 – Day 6 Review

June 12, 2008 Leave a comment

Croatia 2-1 Germany:

Slaven Bilic is one hell of a manager. Young, probably the coolest manager around,  and a man who turned a Croatian side that bored the socks off everyone in their first game to a team that cast a magical spell with their play against tournament favourites Germany.

The 2-1 scoreline simply fails to do justice to the Croats. They were stunning, sublime and ruthless at the same time. Rapid surges forward, silken passes, crunching tackles – they did it all.

Darijo Srna’s 25th minute goal came as a result of wave after wave of attack from the side that started the game as underdogs. Marcell Jansen had a shocker of a game and he was, in part, responsible for the 1st goal. Croatia’s tireless little terrier, Ivica Olic, was finally rewarded for being a nuisance as he scored from a deflection off the post from a Rakitic cross/shot. Jens Lehmann was back to his crazy best.

The German defence was in shambles throughout and ‘Inspirational Ballack’, ‘Clinical Klose’, ‘Frightening Frings’ were all notable absentees from the game as their unskilled clones took the pitch today.

A late trademark left-footed rive from Lukasz Podolski might have given the Germans false jope, but they were never in it. The croats even managed to waste time in the end, without ever making it look like that.

Brilliant brilliant Croatia. If they can keep this form up and get be a force to reckon with as the tog that they can carry onto the pitch, they will surely be a force to reckon with as the tournament progresses. An overconfident german side deserved to lose.

O a side note(s): 1.  I still think Bastian Schweinsteiger should take anger management classes and/or shift careers to act in Psycho movies and I was proven right today with his red card. 2. Does anyone else think Niko Kranjcar is very selfish when he plays for Croatia? 3. Was there ever a more overhyped player from Germany than Mario Gomez? 4. A 65(?) year old Franz Beckenbauer watching from the stands had mor eimpact onm the game than ‘impact sub’ David Odonkor, who the commentator clearly forgot was playing.
